During the course, firstly I applied wordpress and mattermost channel, and joined in a learning pod to meet my other four nice team members. And I introduce myself in the discussion which is my first post in the EDCI339 course. ( Discussions List – Summer 2022 EDCI 339 A02 (31331) (uvic.ca) ) I read the syllabus and clearly understand what we are doing in this July, and finished  fippa and acceptable use of technology quiz in Brightspace. (Summary – FIPPA, Data Security, Privacy & Acceptable Use Quiz – Summer 2022 EDCI 339 A02 (31331) – University of Victoria (uvic.ca) )Â
In topic 1, I have read â1. Conceptual Frameworkâ in âTeaching in Blended Learning Environmentsâ on AU PressâDigital Publications “Vaughan, N. D., Garrison, D. R., & Cleveland-Innes, M. (2013). Teaching in blended learning environments: Creating and sustaining communities of inquiry. AU Press.”, I met my learning pod, and write our own reflection of the reading, it was being posted in the discussion thread. (Topic 1 Discussion – Posts due July 7 & Replies by July 8 – Summer 2022 EDCI 339 A02 (31331) (uvic.ca) ) From doing topic 1, it brings me to a very interesting, up-to-date topic to think about âI agreed with the opinion from the reading material, the online education experience and technology can mixed with the traditional frame of education, in order to achieve better education environment. The advantages from online education can be learned at any time without restrictions on time and space, which improves the efficiency of learning, and it can increase the capacity of “classroom” solving the problem of inequality in educational resources. â
In topic2, reading, Major, C. H. (2015). Teaching Online â A Guide to Theory, Research, and Practice. Retrieved from http://ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/uvic/detail.action?docID=3318874 (pp. 76-108) , In this reading , I found while we discuss the impact and advantages of open pedagogy on traditional education methods, we could also see the advantages and disadvantages that can be improve “When we choose, online teaching would reduce the physical interaction between people despite the invention of video cameras, and lack of practical experiences âwe might later overlook a more neutral or positive response (reduction) because it feels diminished or minimized in an online or text-based environment. The lack of face-to-face direct communication can affect the communication of ideas and lead to misunderstandings.” ïŒTopic 2 â How are you (opened.ca)ïŒ
And we focus on the Digital Equity and Perspective project as a group of five people, read (Lowenthal, Patrick, et al. “Thinking Beyond Zoom: Using Asynchronous Video to Maintain Connection and Engagement During The COVID-19 Pandemic.” Journal of Technology and Teacher Education, vol. 28, no. 2, 2020, pp.383-391.), (Major, Claire Howell. Teaching Online: A Guide to Theory, Research, and Practice. John Hopkins University Press, 2015.) , (Tong, Jiayi, et al. “Distributed Learning for Heterogeneous Clinical Data with Application to Integrating COVID-19 Data Across 230 sites.” NPJ Digital Medicine, vol. 5, no. 1, 2022, pp.1-8.) we made a organized chart and persona to brain storm, and discussed together in doing pitch proposal. By completing this homework in a group way, we have more inspiration and ideas, and also make the homework more comprehensive. We are all very glad to have such a chance to work together as a team, and enjoy this group assignment.
In topic3, I read material Open Pedagogy â A Guide to Making Open Textbooks with Students (rebus.community) and Digital Redlining, Access, and Privacy | Common Sense Education. And I creat the blogs that I think it is the best than other. the chapter name of the topic3 is access and equity which is closely related to the two articles given, and we as UVIC students are extremely fortunate that educational resources are not public and unlimited.” In the face of many economic costs in society, tuition and book costs in college also place a considerable financial burden on students, Among educational problems, financial problems facing students are the main reasons why higher education resources are not fully covered by solved by reducing the interest on student loans alone. The inequality of higher resources indirectly caused by family conditions will form the butterfly effect. “Among the educated of open Pedagogy, it is mentioned that it can help students to greatly reduce the economic burden they face while receiving “In this advantage of open education, if it can be properly combined with traditional education, the purpose of reducing learning cost will be greatly achieved. But along the way there are more factors to consider such as information privacy, Network Conditions and Electronic Devices for viewing the course Material.”. There are many possible advantages of open education that have not yet been mentioned. For example, in the use of OER, the materials of the course may be established by the students and the teacher together, because the inclusion of students may make the materials easier to understand and learn. âOpen Pedagogy is still a direction worthy of development and practice, allowing students to have a dialogue with the teaching materials and creating more space for vitality and improvement in education.â ïŒTopic 3 â How are you (opened.ca)ïŒ
In the last topic, the reading Wiley, D. & Hilton, J. (2018). Defining OER-enabled Pedagogy. International Review of Research in Open and Distance Learning, 19(4), The two points mentioned were of great interest to me and I wrote about them in my blog, The first point is that open education was first created in an informal classroom setting, Note this as an informal classroom in a way of learning hobbies. “When the lead of the process is given to the student, the student can freely arrange his time according to his own learning preferences. But for teenagers, there are many things in reality that appeal to them more than learning materials, So it is not a good thing to cede the lead in education to students.” On the other hands, In the article mentioned “Under the traditional education method, âMillions of hours of work are done, contests, and thrown away each year.” It got me wondering if we could create value in the tens of thousands of graded assignments in addition to being discarded.
